Keeping up-to-date 04/10/2009
Sunday 4 October
God, we pray that justice would be done in Uzbekistan in Dmitry Shestakov’s case and that he would be released from prison. We pray for Dmitry’s physical and emotional health – please strengthen him.
Monday 5 October
Ask God to encourage Dmitry’s wife Marina and his three young daughters, and pray that they would be reunited with Dmitry very soon.
Tuesday 6 October
Pray also for Dmitry’s church, which has been subjected to harassment by the state.
Wednesday 7 October
Praise God for the great response to CSW’s Eritrea petition. Pray that this petition would have an impact in the EU and that the human rights situation in Eritrea would not be overlooked.
Thursday 8 October
Pray for all those facing repression in Eritrea, asking God to sustain them and to enable them to remain strong in the midst of such cruelty. Remember particularly fifteen Orthodox priests detained for their opposition to government interference in church affairs and 23 Jehovah’s Witnesses who were arrested in Asmara in June for gathering together privately.
Friday 9 October
Praise God for the end of the conflict in Sri Lanka. Pray for the government, confronted with the challenge of rebuilding a peaceful, just, united and inclusive society, and pray that religious freedom will be protected as part of this process and beyond.
Saturday 10 October
Pray for CSW’s partners, the National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka (NCEASL), and other organisations working towards reconciliation in the country.
