A cause for celebration?  06/09/2009

Sunday 6 September

Father, we praise You for the house church in China and for their desire to follow their faith despite persecution.

Monday 7 September

Pray that house church leaders who have been detained or imprisoned would be released without threat of further harassment or re-arrest.

Tuesday 8 September

Pray for Gao Zhisheng, who was kidnapped by the Chinese authorities in February.  Pray for protection for Gao and his family, that the truth of his disappearance would be revealed and that he would be released swiftly.

Wednesday 9 September

Please pray that God would bring peace, religious freedom and human rights to Tibet, Xinjiang and other ethnic minority areas in China.

Thursday 10 September

Pray for the Chinese authorities and their approach to human rights, particularly after they rejected most of the UN Human Rights Council’s recommendations.

Friday 11 September

Pray that the Chinese Government would match the economic development of China with improvements in human rights, and that they would be open to hearing the views of their people and the recommendations of the international community.

Saturday 12 September

Pray that the United Nations, the European Union and international governments would exercise wisdom and boldness in human rights dialogues with China, particularly regarding religious freedom.

Provide

Fund legal aid for an arrested house church leader who can’t afford a lawyer! Your gift will help to provide a legal defence team to protect the house church leader’s right to practise their faith freely.

In recent years the situation for Christians in China has improved, but problems still remain. For example, government officials sometimes see church groups as a threat because of the large groups of people gathered without authorisation. In addition, house church leaders have been arrested for their Christian work, and bogus charges brought against them. Most of them can’t afford a lawyer, so once they get to court their chance of a fair trial is very small. This gift funds their legal aid, helping to ensure that justice is done!
